Lightest motor: aluminum housing, output sprocket and red chain-tensioner pulley, in studio lighting

The motor, in motion.

1.75 kg of torque-sensing engineering. It delivers 120 Nm without ever calling attention to itself, and comes off in 5 minutes with 3 bolts.

01

Torque-sensing

It delivers power based on the real force on the pedals: natural, progressive, never abrupt.

02

5 minutes, 3 bolts

Install it once, then take the motor off and put it back on in minutes. Your bike stays a regular bike.

The details other kits don't have.

It's not just the lightest. It's engineered to go where other kits struggle — and to keep your bike a bike.

More ground clearance

The motor sits well above the bottom bracket: protected from rocks and obstacles on the trail, where bulky kits scrape and get damaged.

Off-road safe

Perfect chainline

It keeps the same chainline as your original bike: precise shifting and no dropped chain. It respects the drivetrain you already have.

Clean shifting

Independent sprocket

The motor has its own sprocket: it can spin at a different ratio from your pedaling, so your bike's original chainring never wears down.

Less wear

Zero drag when off

The freewheel cancels all resistance when the motor is off: with a dead battery you pedal like a regular bike, no drag at all.

Pedal like before

Real-bike Q factor

175 mm on a BSA 68 bottom bracket: the pedals stay at the right distance apart. No wide-legged stance, no discomfort — your bike's biomechanics stay intact.

Natural pedaling

Torque read at the pedals

A torque sensor on the chain tensioner measures the actual force you apply: progressive, natural assistance, never jerky. Sinusoidal FOC controller, whisper-quiet.

Is your bike compatible?

Lightest isn't a native e-bike: it's a conversion kit that transforms the bike you already own. It works on virtually any frame — from city bikes to cargo bikes, all the way to a 270 kg New York pedicab. Here's how to find out in thirty seconds.

01 / WHAT BIKE YOU HAVE

Almost any frame

Five mounting systems (Standard, Medium, Long, Hybrid, Inframe) cover a range of geometries and tube diameters. If you can ride it, Lightest probably fits it.

City MTB Gravel Cargo Fat bike Recumbent NYC Pedicab · 270 kg
02 / WHAT YOU NEED

Standard hub, 3 bolts

No welding, no permanent modifications. The motor bolts onto the bottom bracket with a dedicated bracket kit, plus an external battery on the frame.

  • A standard hub and bottom bracket, factory-fitted on nearly every bike.
  • Fastened with 3 bolts, with no permanent changes to the frame.
  • Take the motor off and put it back on in 5 minutes: the bike stays a regular bike.
03 / YOU'RE COMPATIBLE IF

Three conditions, and you're set

In the vast majority of cases the answer is yes. Check these three points and you're good to go.

  • You have a pedal-powered bike (not already electric).
  • The bottom bracket is free and accessible (not a motor-integrated frame).
  • There's room for the battery on the frame or the rear rack.

The questions you ask before ordering

Legal, reversible, light. The answers that matter, no beating around the bush — before you convert your bike.

01 Is Lightest street-legal in Italy and Europe?

Yes. In its 250 W setup with assistance up to 25 km/h and a pedaling sensor, Lightest falls into the EPAC EN 15194 category: it's treated as an ordinary pedal-assist bicycle and rides with no plate, license or insurance.

The more powerful tiers (500/750/1000 W) and RACE mode, which unlocks 45 km/h, are intended exclusively for use on private land or closed circuits.

02 Does the kit fit MY bike, or do I need an e-bike?

It fits your regular bike: Lightest is a retrofit conversion kit, not a native e-bike. Five mounting systems — Standard, Medium, Long, Hybrid and Inframe — cover nearly every frame.

City bikes, MTBs, gravel, fat bikes, cargo bikes and even recumbent trikes: it adapts to your bike, not the other way around. See all 5 mounts →

Retrofit 5 mounting systems
03 Is it hard to install?

Anyone can do it, but the first time takes a little longer. The full first installation (bracket, battery mount, chain and setup) typically takes 1–2 hours depending on your experience and hands-on skill. Once the bracket and battery mount are on the bike, taking the motor off and putting it back on is a matter of 5 minutes and 3 bolts.

In Italy we also offer full-service installation: ship it to us or drop it off, and we hand it back ready to ride.

First time 1–2 h Then 5 min · 3 bolts Full-service Italy
04 Is it reversible? Can I go back to my regular bike?

Completely reversible. The 3-bolt mounting requires no welding and no drilling on your frame: once the kit comes off, your bike is exactly as it was.

You can also move the same Lightest from one bike to another in just a few minutes.

No frame modifications
05 Can it handle rain and mud? What's its rating?

Yes. Lightest has IP55 protection: protected against dust and water splashes. You can ride in the rain, on gravel and through mud without a second thought.

It's designed and assembled in Motor Valley, the birthplace of Ducati and Ferrari, to motorsport-grade quality standards.

IP55 Made in Motor Valley
06 How much range does it have? How many km can I ride?

It depends on the external battery you choose (from 220 to 960 Wh) and your assistance level. As a rough guide:

• up to about 60 km with the compact battery (220 Wh)
• up to about 120 km with the touring (700 Wh)
• up to about 160 km with the maxi (960 Wh).

07 How long is the warranty?

The warranty is 2 years, with support directly from the manufacturer.

Spare parts are guaranteed and always available: because it's Made in Italy, the entire support chain is ours.

2-year warranty Direct support
08 Can I return the kit if I'm not satisfied?

Yes. You have the right to return it within 14 days of delivery, as provided by European regulations on online purchases.

We'll refund the product returned in its original condition.

14-day returns EU regulation
09 How much does it cost, and what makes Lightest different from other kits?

Kits start at around € 800. Lightest is the world's lightest mid-drive: 1,75 kg for 120 Nm of torque.

A torque sensor (torque-sensing) delivers power naturally and progressively. It weighs 2–3 kg less than competing kits. Configure your kit →

from € 800 1,75 kg · 120 Nm Torque-sensing
10 Which bottom bracket does it mount on? (BSA, Pressfit...)

Lightest fits the most common standards: threaded BSA or Pressfit bottom bracket. It's a technical detail: if you're unsure, just pick “don't know” in the configurator and we'll identify it from your bike model, or from two photos.

BSA / Pressfit
11 Does it work with my derailleur and my gears?

Yes. As a mid-drive, Lightest uses the gears you already have: it multiplies torque through your ratios, making it far more efficient uphill than a hub motor. And it keeps the original chain line for precise shifting.

Uses your gears
12 Mid-drive or hub motor: what's the difference?

A mid-drive (like Lightest) drives the pedals and uses your gears: more efficient uphill, natural power delivery, weight kept central and low. A hub motor drives the wheel directly: simpler but less efficient uphill, and it throws the bike's balance toward the wheel.

Mid-driveMore efficient uphill
13 What's included in the kit?

The Lightest motor, controller, mounting bracket, drivetrain and torque sensor. The battery, app (Superhero Pack), throttle and sensors are options you choose in the configurator based on your needs.

Motor + controller + mount
14 Where does the battery go?

The battery is external and attaches to the frame tubes or the rear rack. Choose a capacity from 220 to 960 Wh based on the range you need: it isn't integrated into the frame like on a native e-bike.

External220-960 Wh
15 How much does the complete system weigh, not just the motor?

The motor weighs 1,75 kg. The complete 250W kit with battery adds about 4 kg to the bike: still 2-3 kg less than competing conversion kits.

Motor 1,75 kgKit +~4 kg
16 Does it need any special maintenance?

Little, but not none. It's a mechanical drivetrain with a torque sensor—rugged and simple—and your bike's routine care stays exactly as before. The manual also includes the recommended maintenance schedule—periodic checks of chain, tension and torque—to keep the kit at its best over time.

Schedule in the manual
17 Can I move it to another bike?

Yes, it's transferable. If the other bike already has the bracket and battery mount installed, you move the Lightest over in about 5 minutes (3 bolts). If it's the first installation on that bike, plan for 1–2 hours depending on your experience and hands-on skill. The same Lightest can serve several bikes: all you need is the right mount for each frame.

Transferable
18 To save weight, did you sacrifice reliability?

No, quite the opposite. Lightest's low weight doesn't come from smaller or cheaper components, but from engineering choices that optimize performance and from innovative solutions that cut bulk and weight while keeping the same strength. The key example: the motor transmits power through its own output pinion, which spins much faster than the chainring—about 3 times the RPM. By running at high speed, we can eliminate the final reduction stage, the largest and heaviest part of a drivetrain, without giving up torque at the wheel. Less mass and fewer stressed components also mean fewer wear points: lighter, and just as reliable.

Lightweight by design≈3× RPM at the pinion
19 What's Lightest's advantage over the Bafang (BBSHD / Ultra M620)?

Lightest starts from a structural advantage: 1,75 kg versus roughly 4 kg for the BBSHD and over 5 kg for the Ultra M620, and it's torque-sensing as standard, with power delivery proportional to your pedaling—the most common Bafang units (BBS02/BBSHD) instead work with an on/off cadence sensor. By eliminating the final reduction stage (its own pinion at ~3× RPM), Lightest cuts mass and wear points, with more refined electronics and lower noise.

Where the motor sits matters too: Lightest doesn't take the place of the bottom bracket and doesn't hang down low, so it preserves ground clearance even on frames with a curved down tube—where the Bafang stays very low and risks striking rocks and bumps. And it leaves the chainring free: the Bafang requires a chainring larger than the motor body (no small chainrings, less nimble ratios uphill), Lightest doesn't.

Finally, the mounting: Lightest anchors to the frame with a support point that is wide and well away from the bottom bracket, spreading pressure over a larger surface—ideal even for carbon frames, which are sensitive to concentrated loads.

1,75 vs ~4–5 kgTorque-sensingMore ground clearanceIdeal on carbon
20 And versus the TongSheng TSDZ2 / TSDZ8?

Lightest and the TSDZ share the same philosophy—a torque-sensing mid-drive—but Lightest takes it further. It weighs nearly half (1,75 kg versus ~3,3–3,6 kg) and uses advanced polymer gears that minimize wear: on the TSDZ, the reduction gear is instead a well-known weak point, often swapped for the brass version. Lightest's torque sensor and thermal management are engineered to last, too—no open-source firmware required.

Lightest also leaves the chainring free—the TSDZ, like the Bafang, forces a chainring larger than the motor mount—and attaches with a mount that is wide and well away from the bottom bracket, distributing loads better and ideal even on carbon. All with official EU support and warranty.

1,75 vs ~3,5 kgLow-wear gearsFree chainringEU support
21 And versus the CYC Photon / X1?

The CYC delivers a lot of power, but Lightest is all about lightness and balance: about 4 kg for the complete kit versus ~7 kg for the Photon (motor ~3,7 kg). Lightest's power delivery is progressive and smooth and respects the bike's original chain line; the CYC's very aggressive torque, by contrast, is often reported as harsh on shifting and hard on the cassette and chain. The result is a more natural ride and a drivetrain that lasts.

kit ~4 vs ~7 kgProgressive deliveryRespects the drivetrain
22 In short: why Lightest and not another conversion kit?

Compared with the leading conversion mid-drives—Bafang BBSHD/Ultra, TongSheng TSDZ, CYC Photon, ToSeven DM02—Lightest makes a different choice: it's the world's lightest mid-drive (1,75 kg for 120 Nm), torque-sensing as standard, and the only one that eliminates the final reduction stage thanks to its own high-speed pinion. The result is 2–3,5 kg less on the bike, fewer stressed components and a bike that stays a bike—with EU support and warranty. Configure your kit →
